Friday Shows

Well, this is just the week that keeps on giving, isn't it? Spring Fashion Week has been off to a fantastic little start. When people ask me what I am expecting I always like to say I hope whatever I'm expecting isn't on the runway because girlfriend, I want to be surprised. As it happens, this season have offered several fun surprises. From a turn taken for the Repeller at Kimberly Ovitz to the unusual kooky and exciting prints and silhouettes at Nicole Miller, I'd say it's been a fairly jaw dropping season of goodness. One that thankfully ensures a future for this blog's career. Diving in keyboard first, I bring you one of yesterday's last shows for me, Rag & Bone.
And for the last three seasons I have said, "holy smokes, this is the best show I've ever seen," so to follow suit, I'll say it again. And really, really mean it. I loved the use of sheer white blouse in a multitude of diverse outfitting efforts. The pops of orange that have sprinkled all through fashion may suggest that the hue will be spring's new black. As for the chokers, I may have to sit that trend out. Renders a little too s&m for someone who calls herself a man repeller.
On more look. Sorry, I had to. There were goggles! Goggles, I tell ya!
United Bamboo's runway show featured a hairstyle best described as the high fashion equivalent of corn rows, are you with me? And other than the usual chic sheaths and simple yet elegant silhouettes, I did quite love seeing a new take on the Canadian tuxedo embracing several different finishes of chambray (far right) and a few cool details to the right like cut out collars and a fun little blazer strap. Seemingly useless, right? But maybe it could carry a baby, or something.
Overall the surprises, I was more excited by the departure of cut outs and bodycon silhouettes at Kimberly Ovitz as she saluted a far more sack-inspired approach to her spring collection. The orange hues felt very Alexander Wang 2010 with a more wearable update and this fancy little mullet to the left tugged "wear me, wear me!" as it strut it's stuff. Again, perfect layering basics. Sign me up with a utility jacket.
Peter Som featured darling large floral prints but really caught my eyeball with the neon feathers and super sexy slits. There I said it, sexy. Sexy and I like it. I'm sorry if I fail you but I wear to monochrome and wear a crop top as the show suggested I should, shall I fall face forward into this skirt. I'm not sure why I'd fall face forward and not leg forward but work with me, would ya? That's not to take any less attention of the neon feathers though. Keep looking.
...And finally:
Expect the unexpected! Nicole Miller's usual party girl tight metallic dresses were tucked away for spring and instead kicked it back super 80s style with bright colors, boxy silhouettes and while not pictured here--some jumpsuits that beg the question: is she going to a fashion party, or bungee jumping? With transparent and inside-out rain coats, kooky neon details and some prints Vanilla Ice would swoon over, I'm going to have to lend a serious high five to the transition Nicole Miller took. Here, here to being best dressed single girl at the party.
