I discovered these super cool postcards via Liss on decor8. They are made by i.klee design and are photos of clusters of 3d objects, aren't they amazing? I'm already thinking what objects I can find around the house to try and make my own version...just for fun!

Very Inviting
I found The Future Mrs Darcy through the Snippet & Ink blog (one of my favourites!) - a lovely stationery business that offers some delightful invitation options through Etsy. The business name was enough to convince me, but the designs are really refreshing - there is something for every tast. I love this one…

The Right Shades
What's not to like about Amy Butler and her incredibly beautiful designs? Her wrap and stationery are gorgeous and her fabrics conjure up many crafty ideas. There are also a number of free downloadable patterns to make quilts and bags. Her cool, green-blue palette is right on the mark with our Playful Shades story in Issue 8. The perfect hues for a summer soiree.

Yes Please
Big, big fan of any stationery that incorporates bakers twine. Ask anyone in our office and they'll tell you about my obsession with string - I have many different varieties from all around the world in my collection. These letterpress placecards from Pantry Press in Canada are well suited to a country style gathering or could be used as tags for gifts.

Placecards inspired by French plaques US$12.45 + postage
Thanks to one of my favourite blogs, White & Wander, for the lead.

Stitched Up
I received a parcel in the mail last week - an Etsy purchase from Lucky Little Dot. It was so beautifully wrapped, tied with brown string (they had me there) and finished with a very sweet swing tag in a most pleasing neutral palette. What caught my eye was the exquisitely perfect row of zig-zag stitching at the bottom of the card. What a beautiful detail - such an easy yet effective way to add a special touch to any stationery piece.

The Notebook
I'm not sure if this is how every designer commences a project, but this is how I do it... I turn to my trusty notebook and start to write notes and draw little pictures of what I have in mind. I like to draw little - somehow the pictures just don't look right big. My notebook of choice is spiral-bound, unlined and I like to use my favourite ultra-fine black felt-tip pen - no biros allowed. I include colour, fabric and ribbon swatches, sometimes magazine clippings or things I've printed out from the web - anything that will help me develop a theme.
I have each and every issue of Wedding Style Guide documented in my notebooks. I love to look back and remember how the germ of an idea grew into a complete concept for a shoot. Sometimes the ideas translated exactly as they were first imagined, othertimes they evolved into something more refined.

Can you spot my drawing of the embroidered 'M' in my notebook?

And here's the sponge - pretty close to what I had in mind. You can find this story in Issue 11.

The concertina games card and drink label are pretty much how I first envisaged them. You can find this story in Issue 9.
Maybe a notebook would help you with the planning of your wedding. It would make a wonderful keepsake of all the preparations, something to treasure forever - like mine.

Pretty Promotion
Yesterday I received a lovely little package in the mail from Annabel and Dorathee at Belathée Photography in New York. We have featured their beautiful photographs in previous issues - their style is quite modern which I like.

Vané Broussard's wedding photographed by Belathée featured in Issue 9.
Anyway, I digress... inside the package I received in the mail was a little consertina leaflet, about the size of a business card when all folded. It opened to reveal a selection of their beautiful photographs. I thought this would be a really nice way to commemorate a wedding as a thank you gift for guests - an insight into the entire day.

When placing photographs directly next to one another like Belathée have here, consider placing a busy one (with lots of detail) next to one with a plain background - a close-up shot perhaps. This will make it easier to distinguish the different photographs from one another. Also, consider the colour palette, choosing pics that will complement one another. A stunning black and white photograph placed amongst colour photographs can also look very effective. If it's all a bit much to organise it yourself, consider asking your stationery designer if they can do it for you - that way you know it will match everything else you've used throughout the wedding.
We're currently working on another one of Belathée's wonderful weddings that we will be featuring in Issue 13 - it's stunning.

Etsy Love
I found a couple of cute stationery items from etsy today. The first one is by Timeless Paper who have a collection of place cards, table numbers and menus in all different shapes. They are printed on white or cream stock and you can specify the colour of the dots and text to match your colour scheme. Prices start from $20 USD for 20 blank love bird place cards.

The second find thanks to Design Sponge is Moontree Letterpress. They make sweet letterpress recipe cards that would be great to incorporate into a kitchen tea. Prices start from $10 USD for a pack of ten. A great gift idea for the bride is to buy all three packs (30 cards in total) with the Martha Stewart Recipe Box for $50 USD.
Both of these sellers ship internationally.

A Script in Time
Here's something that really interests me - and it starts with a beautiful typeface. It's called Zaner and we've used it in the magazine for a little on a year now. I was drawn to its delicate swishes and dramatic swashes. It's pretty without being twee.

The word 'fabulous' is set in Zaner
So when I was reading the Iampeth website today and found this sample...

I was intrigued. This wonderful letter was labelled C. P. Zaner. Now that's a name I know. As it turns out, the typeface we use today in the 21st century is based on the work of a penman from Charles Paxton Zaner, born 1864 in Pennsylvania, USA. It all makes sense now - the font we use today has all the characteristics of his work.
I so love that we can embrace the skills and aesthetics of an era long gone, but interpret them in a contemporary way, making them relevant to our modern day lives. It has made me wonder how many of the products we use and see every day are actually influenced by a time long past.
